Welcome to PLANTCOL,
Belgium has a rich tradition in both botany and horticulture. In an area little over 30,000 km², there is an enormous density of botanic gardens, arboreta and private plant collections, each with their unique identity, profiles and specialisations. The Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta (V.B.T.A. vzw) took the initiative to digitally unlock these unique plant collections, making them available worldwide on the internet.
The PLANTCOL project highlights the wonderful splendour of Belgium's plant collections and leads the world in presenting this information to a worldwide public. Within the holdings are plants with unique stories and others that are on the verge of extinction in the wild. We have great pleasure in presenting Belgium's green magic to you all in such a innovative way.
